Charts

A chart on the whiteboard draws the rows of a page or table: how your savings develop, what comes in and goes out each month, where your money goes. It uses the same values as the table, formula results too.

Make a chart

In the toolbar choose Content and then Chart (shortcut D), or right-click an empty spot and choose Chart. Click on the board. The Chart settings window opens: pick the page, the type and what it shows. You see every choice right away in the preview. Later you change it again with a double-click or the gear.

Link with a line

If the table is on the whiteboard, draw a line from the dot above a column to the chart. A column with numbers becomes a series; a date, choice or text becomes the axis. Point at the chart or the table to see the lines of the columns used. The chart follows every change in the table right away.

Types

  • Line and Area: how something develops over time.
  • Bar and Horizontal bar: compare, side by side or stacked.
  • Pie and Donut: the split over choices.
  • Scatter: two numbers against each other.
  • Number: a key figure, such as what you have left each month.

The axis and the series

A date axis can be grouped per day, week, month, quarter or year. Per series you choose the calculation (sum, average, count, smallest, largest or last), whether it shows as a line, area or bar, a colour and a dashed line. With Split by you get one series per choice, for example spending per category.

Looking ahead

Running total adds every point to the ones before. A Trend line draws a straight line through the points to the end of the axis: the expected line. A Goal line shows a fixed value, and a date axis has a dotted line at today.

Which rows

Pick a View of the page: the chart then shows only those rows. For bars and pies you can also choose Largest first and Only the largest; the rest is called Other.

Move the mouse over the chart for the values.
